OUR STORY

A Journey of Success

In 1981, Emmyson was founded as a distribution company serving the industrial needs of West Africa with raw materials for paints, coatings, inks, adhesives, plastics, cosmetics, and telecommunications.

Down the years, Emmyson saw a new frontier in food science. Partnering with H&R Flavours, the company expanded into food ingredients, laying the foundation for what would become a transformational presence in West Africa’s food and baking industries. This momentum grew rapidly, and a few years in, Emmyson was actively distributing food ingredients across the region, helping local producers access high-quality inputs with consistency and confidence.

A decade later, Emmyson opened a major distribution hub in Ghana. This marked a key milestone in its West African expansion. With demand growing and the market evolving, the company underwent a strategic restructuring, spinning off its specialist business units in 2005 (Food Science, Material Science, and Surface Science) to deepen its industry expertise and deliver more focused value.

This restructuring launched First Blends Limited a year later. With a sole focus on food innovation, First Blends quickly became the first in sub-Saharan Africa to operate a modern enzyme formulation and blending facility, bringing cutting-edge science to flour correction, bread improvement, and ingredient formulation.

From the beginning, our purpose has been clear: to empower the region’s milling and baking industries through smarter, more effective solutions. We started by fusing deep technical insight with practical, results-driven support. Today, that ethos still defines who we are.

We’re more than just a supplier. We are a strategic partner to millers, bakers, and food manufacturers. Our customers rely on us not just for what we make, but for what we know.
